Club And Competition Rules (Adults And Scholars)


Literature( Poems; Short Stories; Art And Photography)

  1. Whisper from the Heart Poetry Club membership is free and competitions are open to adults and scholars who wish to participate.
  2. No membership fee is required but a charge of £5.00 per entry per ENTRY is payable for the open competition and £1.00 for scholars.
  3. Poems of up to 32 lines in English and Afrikaans (for South Africa entries) can be entered. No restriction on whether poets have had their work published or not. Details of the short story, art and photography competition available on request.
  4. It will be the responsibility of each entrant to advise whether the work entered has been accepted for publishing with any other club or publisher and that the entries are their own original work. In this event we would only require a confirmation that the work being entered with our club has no restriction on it being published by Whisper from the Heart Poetry Club (from any other club or association).
  5. No limit to the number of poems being entered with each poem entered costing £5.00 for the open competition and £1.00 for scholars.
  6. Scholars are requested to enter through their respective schools.
  7. No prescribed themes with the club encouraging writers and artists to develop their own unique talent and style.
  8. Once accepted for publication it will be expected of winning ENTRANTS to exempt Whisper from the Heart Poetry Club from any claims of copyright entered into with other clubs, associations, publishers or individuals.
  9. No fee will be charged for works selected for publication and members are free to purchase a copy of the anthology. The cost of an anthology will be announced after each publication.
  10. Anthologies (Whispering Hope; A Whisper from the Heart & A Whisper in the Reeds) which are now available at a cost of £17.00 & £15.00(respectively) per copy are obtainable from our office. Prices exclude postage.
  11. English and Afrikaans (South Africans) Poems & Short Stories are acceptable for both the adult and schools competition.
  12. The organizers decision will be final and all prize winners will be announced after 30th September 2007 (& of each year) with the anthology being distributed by end May of the next year.
  13. The competitions close on 30th September 2007 (& of each year). All entries with proof of postage up to and including these dates will be accepted. All entries will be acknowledged but no entries will be returned.
  14. No late entries will be accepted.
  15. The club will publish the selected works but the copyright of each work remains the property of the club member.

ENTRIES THAT ARE NOT PAID FOR WILL NOT QUALIFY FOR THE COMPETITION; PRIZES OR PUBLICATION.



Revised closing date to 30th September 2008

It has been decided that In view of the serious power cuts being experienced in South Africa we revert back to the 30th September closing date for the 2008 competition. This will allow sufficient time to send all our details to schools & members. We apologise for any inconvenience - The Editor


Remember that the closing date for the Poetry;Short Story & Art competition is the 30th June 2008.The Photography competition closes on the 21st of each month & monthly prizes will be awarded. The entry fee for the Photography is free of charge.
