By Stan Almendro

ORDINARY WON’T CHANGE THE WORLD

Strange as it would be that society seems to prefer the extra ordinary to the ordinary!!

There is really nothing wrong with “extra- ordinary” & also even less wrong with “ordinary”

A value system has developed in our society that the super rich;the genius; the he-man;the executive & so on is what makes our world go round. Well their ideas, inventions & even their management styles play a definite role but without Mr. Ordinary none of their dreams; inventions or clever business schemes will get off the ground.
The real people understand and accept that both the extra-ordinary & ordinary cannot be separated and that getting the job done or completing a task is what it is about.

If perhaps you are Mr. Extra-Ordinary & you have fallen prey to that mental trait that it is you who makes the world go round or without you the world & all that it wants to be is lost then take a little time and read the words of the verses that follow.

It might however be that you drop your head in shame because you consider yourself as just an ordinary guy or that people make you feel you just have not got it. I suggest you also take a while and read the verses that follow.

OPEN MY EYES THAT I MAY SEE
GLIMPSES OF TRUTH YOU HAVE FOR ME
PLACE IN MY HANDS THAT WONDERFUL KEY
THAT WILL UMCLASP AND SET ME FREE
SILENTLY NOW I WAIT FOR THEE
READY MY GOD YOUR WILL TO SEE
OPEN MY EYES ILLUMINE ME
SPIRIT DIVINE

OPEN MY EARS THAT I MIGHT HEAR
VOICES OF TRUTH THOU SENDEST CLEAR
AND WHILE THE WAVE-NOTES FALL ON MY EAR
EVERYTHING FALSE WILL DISAPPEAR
SILENTLY NOW I WAIT FOR THEE
READY MY GOD YOUR WILL TO SEE
OPEN MY EARS ILLUMINE ME
SPIRIT DIVINE

OPEN MY MOUTH AND LET ME BEAR
GLADLY THE WARM TRUTH EVERYWHERE
OPEN MY HEART AND LET ME PREPARE
LOVE WITH THY CHILDREN THUS TO SHARE
SILENTLY NOW I WAIT FOR THEE
READY MY GOD YOUR WILL TO SEE
OPEN MY HEART ILLUMINE ME
SPIRIT DIVINE

OPEN MY MIND THAT I MIGHT READ
MORE OF THE LOVE IN WORD AND DEED
WHAT SHALL I FEAR WHILE YET THOU DOES'T LEAD
ONLY FOR LIGHT FROM THEE I PLEAD
SILENTLY NOW I WAIT FOR THEE
READY MY GOD YOUR WILL TO SEE
OPEN MY MIND ILLUMINE ME
SPIRIT DIVINE

OPEN MY WAY THAT I MIGHT BRING
TROPHIES OF GRACE TO THEE MY KING
ECHOED IN LOVE THY WORD SHALL OUTRING
SWEET AS THE NOTE THE ABGELS SING
SILENTLY NOW I WAIT FOR THEE
READY MY GOD YOUR WILL TO SEE
OPEN MY WAY ILLUMINE ME
SPIRIT DIVINE

YES if we will allow ourselves to be illumined we will have a sense of values that will take us, whether ordinary or extra ordinary, on to a plain higher than the “CHEAPNESS” of a social class or the “SHALLOWNESS” of a meaningless friendship, to a height of “MEANINGFUL” living & we will bring with us trophies of “OTHER” human souls who will want to walk the path of the UPLIFTED with us.

It is those who care; lift up; encourage & bear the burdens of the weak who make a real difference in a world rushing on in a selfish & uncaring way of living.

Mother Teresa said if you want to preach the gospel pick up a broom and sweep the home of a friend.

Have a great month as you by your love & caring you MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

We would welcome any items of news in honour of ladies all around the world & will gladly post any letters on our site.

giselle_december.jpgWhisper Poetry News
by Giselle Visser

We have come to the end of another competition, and for some poets and/or writers the results are a welcome and pleasant surprise, for others it might be a disappointment. For some folks, just the acknowledgement and exposure of their work was well worth it all. It just goes to show that each person experiences life, events and circumstances differently.

The same can be said at the end of each year. When we look back and reflect on this year, we all see and feel differently about the experiences, joys, sorrows and challenges we have gone through, felt and dealt with. We should not label or judge ourselves, others or circumstances by what we have felt, gone through or received but rather embrace the strength, courage and wisdom each experience and opportunity has taught us.

It is from our past experiences and challenges that we draw strength courage and wisdom to not only face the future but also have great expectation for that which lies ahead. When looking back and reflecting on the opportunities, challenges and changes you had to deal with in this year, may it inspire, encourage and strengthen you for all that awaits you in 2008.

May this Festive Season, & holiday be a time you enjoy and share with those special people in your life.

Regards
Giselle Visser

About Leaf Books
A worthwhile visit

leaf_books.jpg
Leaf Books publishes seriously impressive short fiction, micro-fiction and poetry by new and established authors. We've published individual short stories and compilations of poetry and micro-fiction in both A6-sized formats, small enough to fit into a pocket, and conventional anthologies. Leaf Books is one of the world’s leading publishers of micro-fiction

In barely two years we’ve put nigh on two-hundred authors and poets into print, many for the very first time. Our material is sourced via competitions and all entries are anonymous, ensuring that everyone gets an equal shot at the goal: we can’t be swayed a notably book-selling name. We’re inordinately proud to have given so many new writers that all-important first print credit that we hope is not only rewarding and talent-affirming in itself but can also serve as a valuable calling card to other publishers.
We strive, in addition, to be a nurturing sort of a publisher: as well as publication, we offer an online presence at our website for all our published authors and various writing services for all our hoping-to-be-published authors, including short-story critiques, an informative list of UK writers’ groups and Root Books, a service that offers a tailor-made route from first-draft manuscript to printed text.

Our books of short fiction and poetry contain accessible and endlessly varied reads and are ideal for arbitrary amusement on slow-running trains and in fiction-free corners of coffee shops. Our increasingly vast output ranges from engagingly literary drama and racy romantic fiction to surreal children's humour and broken-hearted verse.

The books are on sale through this website and via Amazon.co.uk. But it would be nice if you bought them from us because we get more money that way.

Point of Life
michael_levy.jpgThe Writings of Michael Levy

An expensive lifestyle is one where ... happiness is sacrificed for money, serenity for ambition and contentment for the pursuit of things."_Michael Levy.

The Inspiring Story of Little Goody Two Shoes, is the latest book from author Michael Levy.

The story of Little Goody Two Shoes, was one of the most famous, popular and influential children's/adults books of the eighteenth century. It was first published in 1765 and had an unparalleled status for over two hundred years. At long last, Point of Life publishing house has renewed, refreshed, revitalized and recreated the literature masterpiece. By the inspirational pen of Michael Levy, the creative publication has been gracefully transformed, while at the same time keeping to the original text and meaning as much as possible. It is an updated, encouraging book that is required inspiring reading for all children and adults.

From humble beginnings the little orphan girl teaches children and adults to learn to read and write with wisdom. The inspirational tale follows Little Goody Two Shoes on many adventures that challenge her sanity and survival. In the second part of the story, as an adult Miss Margery, becomes headmistress of the ABC College of education. She also teaches adults how to stop quarreling and live a peaceful, wholesome life... She invents a three cornered "Pals Hat" (Peace and Love - Smile) that has thought provoking words written on each side. The hat helps people become aware of the differences in their opinions ... It conveys messages to them that allows time to stop and think about how they can meet each other in the middle of their opinions, so that together they can embrace peace and harmony.

The new edition has been restored and revitalized to its rightful place as one of the best children's books of all time and is sure to become a best seller for the next two hundred years and beyond..

Short Bio

I popped out the womb in Manchester, England, on the 6th of March 1945. The Second World War was drawing to a close and folks were just beginning to pick up the remnants of five hard years of conflict. For the first nineteen years of my life I lived in a corner terrace house with no bathroom, an outside toilet and green mold on the walls. I recall the early days, they were exciting times. Every day was an adventure on the streets of the inner city community... Nobody had any spare money. Even sweets were on ration until 1950, but nobody ever informed me I was poor. I just knew there were only so many hours in each day and was alive to enjoy them. I always went around with a big smile on my face and nobody was able to wipe it away. It is still the same smile today with a few extra laughter lines.

At sixteen, I thought it was no use continuing with an education, as I was attending school to make the teachers laugh and they thought they could teach me some meaningful knowledge. We both failed as I did not feel the knowledge being taught was meaningful to me. Once I could read and write everything else seemed to be secondary. The sun was shining outside and was beaconing me to play. Even when it was raining I thought my time would be better spent watching a movie.

Throughout my life many negative situations came my way but they did not knock me off the path of joy for more than a day or two at most. I was married at nineteen and started my own business with sixty pounds selling cloth remnants on the street markets. It grew into a successful wholesale textile business. I also invested wisely in commercial property and the stock market; I retired to Florida in 1992.

Since my "retirement" I have penned eight inspirational books. My poetry and essays now grace many web sites, newspapers, journals and magazines throughout the world. I am a prominent speaker on health maintenance, stress eradication, wealth development, authentic happiness and inspirational poetry. My new book-The Inspiring Story of Little Goody Two Shoes - is available at all good bookstores and online wherever books are sold.

Die Drome van Waarheid
by Collin Shrewsbury

Versteurde visie deur siel se venster na liefdes rotse staar.
Verskeurende geheue van ń hartstogtelike gebaar.
Weerklankende woorde van daardie liefdes gedig.
Snikkende vloei traan oor hangende gesig.

Jou skoone aangesig in geestes oë verskyn.
Liefdes belofte om van jou lewe te verdwyn.
Ongesteurdheid n tuiste met my vind.

Almagtige my seblief die sonde vergewe.

Innige liefdes woorde teen koue klip weerklink.
Hartseer trane saam die ewigheid in sink.
Sweet deurweekte liggaam se gesnak die more begroet.
Martelende droom daagliks my vir die liefde laat boet.

Borrelende smart die liggaam en siel laat kwyn.
Verteerende verlange dat jy weer jou son oor my sal skyn.
Smeekend na Bo, ń leë man se hart versterk.
Here! Here! Seën my met ń liefdes wonderwerk!

Collin Shrewsbury.

Summertime, The Season Of The Poet.
by Emmanuel Osondu, Nigeria

It is that time of the year that we all look forward to. The months of rain, mild temperatures, a friendly sun and the great outdoors. Yes! This is what we get to enjoy in Kano, North Central Nigeria, during the months of July,August and September.

The brown and dusty farmlands have endured long months of heat and thirst. But now, they are suddenly transfigured. They are now dressed in green gowns and are well fed on rain water.

And in our gardens, it is a common sight to see the birds and bees and butterflies hanging out with their pals, colourful flowers of their choice! Those that reside in a rivers vicinity can hear loud and clear, the husky voice of the toad engrossed in a ritual of persuasion.

And just what do all these have to do with poetry- inspiration of course! Summertime is the season of the poet! The poet is a painter painting a picture in words. And since only the deep can call to the deep, the natural artistry of summertime inspires the poet into some artistry of his own in a variety of ways.

A singing bird at dawn inpires the poet to write a song of his own. The bright petals of happy flowers sunbathing in the nude signals the poet to put more colour into his own verse. And when the rain gives for free, its vertical showers, the poet, forced to stay indoors, sows a seed of poetic inspiration. In time, this seed becomes a bountiful harvest of living and deeply moving verse.

So, has the nickel dropped as yet? Summertime is the season of the poet. A time to contemplate the beauty of nature undistracted by extremes of heat and cold. A time to pen sweet verse, wtite odes, sonnets and ballads...

This is the time to recognize as I have done that '...she is the fairest child of season /
for whom my verse flows unbidden...'
