Poem of the Month - July 2010
Hi Members and visitors to the “Poem of the Month” column.
We have selected the following poem for July 2010. The poem, written by Carla Mathyse is a beautiful piece of work and it is poetry of this caliber that completes the joy in this wonderful world of writing.
The poem is a beautiful peep and insight into the life, heart and soul of a grandpa.
It is writings of this caliber that not only make it a wonderful experience in the World of Writing but also what Whisper Poetry has in mind for all its’ members.
My (as Editor of The Club) sincere wish for Carla and all you precious writers out there that you will soar in your own right and never having your talent and unique style tampered with.
My wish for Carla and all our members is that you will continue to stand tall in a world where there is a desperate need for people to express the deep inner insights of their hearts.
Whisper Poetry plans to have a short term competition on the topic (Dancing with God) and the winner will receive 80% of the entry fee received. The cost to enter will be R25.00 per entry and poets can enter as many poems as they wish. (See Dancing with God in the Main Menu). This will be shortly live on our site.

MY GRANDPA IS A BOOK
Seeping with knowledge
Filled to the brim with wisdom
Overloaded with inspiration
That’s just waiting to be unleashed
Tales, stories, mystical legends
Facts, history, cultural revolutions
He can tell you about them all
And with excitement you’ll roar.
Those incredible twists
That makes you wonder with awe
The gasps of horror
Those chills down your spine
As he imitates chinning of the keys
On the piano.
The eagerness gleaming through your eyes
It’s as if each page you turn
Unlocks a ticket to that point in time.
The way he speaks it’s as if you’re there
With anxiety you wait to hear this person’s fate
The tension building up, you’d hate to be disturbed.
As grandpa turns the page he stops in mid-sentence
Takes a long glance around the room
And the question in everyone’s mind is:
Did it happen? Was it true?
